The Origin & Early
History of New Orleans

New Orleans is a city located in the southeastern United States, situated along the banks of the Mississippi River. It emerged as a result of French colonization in the early 18th century. The foundation of the city was laid by French explorer Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville in 1718, and it was named in honor of the French Company Regent’s Duc d’Orléans.

“Throughout its history, the ethnic diversity and cultural heritage of New Orleans have made the city truly unique. The blend of French, Spanish, African, and Native American influences is evident in various aspects, ranging from its music to its cuisine.”
